Farming regeneratively  •  Nurturing biodiversity  •  Informed by bioscience

Orchard Farm is a fourth-generation family farm nestled in the picturesque Chiltern Hills.

W
e combine practical farming with a long-term commitment to productive land, healthy soils, animal welfare, biodiversity and the wider landscape.

Our farming includes arable crops, livestock, permanent grassland, hay production, orchards, poultry and bees, all managed within a varied landscape of wildflower meadows, hedgerows, mature trees, woodland and water.

We are also interested in what science can contribute to the future of agriculture — from a better understanding of soils, crops and microbial communities to the emerging role of biotechnology and biological approaches to plant and crop health.

Our ambition is simple: to leave Orchard Farm more productive, more biodiverse and more resilient for the generations that follow.

Our approach is built around three closely connected principles.

Farming regeneratively

We want our farming practices to protect and improve the productive capacity of the land over the long term. That means maintaining healthy grassland, grazing responsibly, caring well for our livestock, managing arable crops with attention to soil health and resilience, and using resources with greater efficiency and care.

Our aim is to work with the natural capacity of the farm rather than exhaust it — supporting healthy soils, productive pasture and crops, and making management decisions that leave the land in stronger condition for the generations that follow.

Nurturing biodiversity

Nature is not separate from the farm. Hedgerows, wildflower meadows, woodland, ponds, trees, insects, birds and soil organisms all form part of the ecological system on which productive agriculture depends.

We want to strengthen that system by increasing the diversity, quality and connectivity of habitats across Orchard Farm. By protecting existing features and creating new opportunities for wildlife, we aim to develop a richer, more resilient landscape in which farming and nature can thrive together.

Informed by bioscience

At Orchard Farm, we see agriculture as a biological system rather than a series of separate activities. The health of our livestock, crops, grassland, soils, trees, water, pollinators and wildlife is interconnected, and understanding those relationships increasingly shapes how we manage the farm and plan for its future.

We have a growing interest in biological research and innovation relevant to agriculture, particularly in soil health, crop resilience and plant biology. This informs the technologies and ideas we follow, and how we explore the potential for combining practical farming with emerging bioscience.
